WE DID IT
Yes Mark Atwell and David Thornton have completed the Lands End to John ‘O’ Groats cycle ride as planned in 12 days. The weather was at times against our progress, especially in Scotland where we endured cold northerly winds and rain into our faces! Despite this, we still managed to arrive at John ‘O’ Groats on Friday 1st October, cold, wet and very tired, not to mention saddle sore! Otherwise, the challenge went well considering we only got lost on 2 occasions, suffered 2 punctures and one shredded tyre. The bikes were inspected each night, checking that nuts and screws etc. were secure and brakes adjusted. As a result the bikes served us very well….
The past week has been spent recovering and catching up on sleep, and the task of collecting the sponsorshiphas begun! We would like to express a big big thank you to all those who generously pledged sponsorship in support of these worthy causes. We would also like to thank Heather Hazel (nee Crawford Ex Postie) and Paul in Dumfries, and Mark and Fiona Griffiths (Ex Posties) in Warrington who all gave us food and shelter en-route. Also Martin Hough (Ex Postie) who provided a moral boosting breakfast and pots of tea one morning. Special extra thanks to Heather and Paul who organised a coffee morning event raising £240 which was donated to our charities.
Once all sponsorship monies are in, we will update final amounts collected, to date over £750 has been raised for Help 4 Heroes. In the mean time we can give some thought to what our next challenge will be!!!
Once again, thank you for all support
